This week's news, tips and race reports
Archery charity fundraiser
Thank you to all those who came to the archery taster session on Saturday in aid of our club charity Macmillan cancer support. We managed to raise £230. Well done and thank you Wendy for organising.
Message from Coach Ben about swimming The technical elements of the swim, make it tricky, but as triathletes we like the challenge. The coaches are always trying to help you as an athlete to improve your feel for the water / body awareness. This refers to your awareness of what you are doing as you are doing it when you are swimming, rather than during a discussion at the end of a rep. When you start to understand what an improvement to your stroke feels like then you can monitor it and see if you are getting it right. To help improve your awareness we are going to spend some time for the next four weeks doing non front crawl strokes. There will still be front crawl swimming! I fully appreciate the view 'In an event I am only going to do front crawl so why try and become a good breaststroker?” To respond - firstly all aspects of swimming have a cross over in technique, by trying to learn skills in a different context you will have to think about it differently and improve your understanding of the movements.
Secondly the point of the next few weeks is not to make you good at different strokes, but to improve your front crawl by working on your swimming movements and body awareness.
