This week's news, tips and race reports

Message from Coach Ben about track sessions

Tuesday run session is at Tilsley Park track (7-8pm). For those of you thinking of trying some different club sessions this year, track is not a bad word, or one you should worry about.

Here is some hopefully useful info:
- Track has benefits, including: smooth surface, flood lights, accurate distances…
- You always run the same way around
- There is no set speed you have to maintain or achieve to be on track
- Faster people run on the inside, slow people use lanes further out
- There is always someone faster than you at track

- There is a lane etiquette, just like at swimming, and just like swimming it can be explained in under 30s and is not complicated
- There are other people there, doing there own thing, cyclocross practise, sprinter, running clubs, field athletics; all doing different things at different times,
some are warming up while other are in the hard phrase of the set

- They are all going different speeds: walking recovery through to sprints, plus standing around

- Again it's like swimming no-one comes to watch us train!

It is different, the surface is smooth and will make your legs feel different, want to know how it feels? Tuesday is an opportunity to find out…

Bring a friend for free

Got a friend who just needs a little nudge to come along to training?  Heard someone talking about entering a triathlon but you know they could do with some training buddies?  Bring them along to any of our sessions to try.  We're more than happy for people to come along and try a couple of sessions before they decide to join, so forward this email onto them and let's encourage more people into the world of triathlon:)

Strava Club

Did you know we have a club group on Strava? By joining the group, you enter the leaderboard as to who is completed what hours of training that week - don't worry, your privacy settings will determine what everyone can see, but the Strava group totals are uploaded to our website so people can see how much we are all training. Check it out! But don't be fooled though, the person with the most training hours doesn't necessarily equate to the person who wins everything...!

This week's training

Monday - 7pm - Run Social - Tilsley Park

Please meet at reception.

Whilst this is not a coached session, it will help develop your running endurance - we take a 10km (ish) route around Abingdon (shorter routes are available, 5km and 7km) and run in ability groups. No-one will be left behind and there is ALWAYS someone to run with. A great way to keep your running up AND have a mini social at the same time. Win Win!

Tuesday - 7-8pm - Track Intervals - Tilsley park, Abingdon
Coach: Sorrel

The most effective way to improve your speed and technique. The session is suitable for all abilities, so if you haven't been to the track before come along and quash any apprehensions, you will work hard, improve your running and have fun at the same time.

Pay at reception £4.60 and meet there 5 mins before. Dress appropriately for the weather, bring a drink and a way of timing yourself if you can.

Thursday - 7.30-8.30pm - Abingdon White Horse Leisure Centre

Coaches: Ben, George and Matt

Focus: Catch

Please come along to either the session at 7pm or 8pm, whichever suits you better for a structured swim session that will improve your fitness and technique. If you have them bring along your fins, hand paddles etc. and a drink.

£3 payable to coaching staff on poolside, do not pay at reception.
